2013 Adelante Malbec
(Forward)

This Adelante Malbec originates from our vineyard, Don Eugenio, in La Consulta, Valle De Uco, Mendoza. La Consulta is one of Mendoza’s coolest grape growing regions.

The wine is a reflection of this unique area.  The blue (blueberry), black (blackberry) fruit is accented with minerality, which melds into a classical expression of pure Malbec.   The wine has ample structure, forward fruit, plus roundness from the oak.  The oak adds additional complexity to the natural spice element found in cooler climate Malbec.

2013 Growing year

The 2013 vintage was not without drama, which is typical in Mendoza. While the majestic and scenic Andes are a wonder to behold, weather changes are swift, dramatic, and can be isolated to a very small area. You can get hailed on, but your neighbor may not. We got hit with hail during the beginning of set. This resulted in about 20% less yield than. While some vines were affected, the vineyard was not damaged. For the rest of the year, the weather cooperated and overall was a good growing year.

Picking, Fermentation & Aging

As usual we were one of the first to pick in La Consulta. By picking earlier than the norm, our goal is developed fruit, allowing the spice in Malbec to express itself, while achieving balance along with richness.

We employed a cold soak of three days, had a native yeast fermentation, natural malolactic fermentation followed, and no SO 2 was added until the malolactic fermentation was completed.

Fermented in traditional cement tanks ,stainless steel tanks and partially aged in new French oak.
